Jefferson Flag Corps

The Jefferson Flag Corps welcomes students in 8-12 grades from all Bloomington middle and high schools. No experience is necessary, we will teach you!

The JHS Flag Corps is a fall activity, performing with the Jefferson Marching Band. Once marching band season begins, we practice with the marching band and perform at all of the home football games, football kickoff, the State Fair, and in the Bloomington Heritage Days Parade. The season ends with the Marching Band Indoors Concerts typically in late October. We also travel with the marching band on its bi-annual trip.

Tryouts are held in the spring, followed by weekly practices Thursday afternoons. In the summer, practices are held on Tuesday evenings (with optional Thursday evenings) each week with the exception of the 4th of July week. Beginning in August, we will have practice each night Monday through Friday.

The Flag Corps also participates in a summer camp at JHS to improve our skills and performance in July. The Jefferson Band Booster Club covers the cost of this camp for the group. Fees include MSHSL fees. Uniform parts fees vary depending on the year and quantity ordered. We also have a couple of car washes during the summer to raise money to purchase flag corps jackets. These are held the 3rd Saturday in June and August.

Flags is a great way to make new friends, learn a new skill, and learn discipline. Practices are meant to learn a lot while also having fun.
